FAL Ready for iPhone
Need a hand?
Email me — [email protected] — and I will get back to you as soon as I can. FAL Ready is made by one person with a day job, so give it a couple of days before you decide the message went astray.
If it is about your data or your privacy specifically, [email protected] lands in the same place and keeps those messages in their own pile.
Think a question is wrong?
Tell me. Every question is checked against its source before it ships, and I would still far rather hear about one that slipped through than not. Send:
- The question, as it appears in the app, and the answer it gave as correct.
- The answer you think is right, and where you read it — the Firearms Safety Code, the Arms Act 2026, the Arms Regulations 2026 or an FSE page, with a page or section number if you have one.
If something is not working
The more you can tell me, the quicker I can find it:
- What you were doing, what happened, and what you expected instead.
- Your iPhone model and iOS version — Settings → General → About.
- A screenshot, if there was something on screen worth seeing.
Things people ask
Is it on the App Store yet? Not yet. It is coming soon to the App Store, in New Zealand. When it is there, huntfix.app/fal will say so and have a link that goes somewhere.
Is FAL Ready official? No. FAL Ready is an independent study aid made in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by Firearms Safety and Education New Zealand (FSE), New Zealand Police, the Mountain Safety Council or any government agency. It is built by Scott, a former Mountain Safety Council firearms safety instructor who supervised licence theory tests — and "former" is the important word there.
What is the pass mark for the theory test? FSE doesn't publish the theory test pass mark. In the tests Scott supervised under the old system, the pass was 28 out of 30, and any Seven Rules question wrong failed you. We train you to that standard: 28/30 or better, with every Seven Rules question right.
If I am at your standard in the mocks, will I pass? Not necessarily. Passing our mock tests does not guarantee you will pass the official test or be granted a licence. A mock that scores 28 or more with every Seven Rules question right is marked At our standard — never "pass".
Does it replace FSE's course or e-learning? No. FSE's free e-learning modules teach you; FAL Ready makes it stick, and tests you the way the theory test does. The recaps are short on purpose, and each one links to FSE's own module, which opens in Safari inside the app. You still sit the firearms safety course and its tests.
What is free? A quick test of 5, 7 or 10 random questions; the Seven Rules drills, putting the rules in order, and the recital; and the recaps for every topic. No account, nothing to sign up for.
What does the unlock add, and what does it cost? Timed mocks — 30 questions in 30 minutes, with flagging and a full review of every answer at the end — drills on every topic (10, 20, or until mastered), and your missed questions drilled until they stick. NZ$9.99, once. No subscription and no ads. The price shown in the app comes from the App Store, so it is the one you will be charged.
Can my family use it? Yes. Family Sharing is on, so one unlock covers everyone in your Apple family group — useful when a parent and a teenager are going for their licences together.
I have a new phone, or I reinstalled the app. Tap Restore purchase, in Settings or on the unlock screen, signed in to the Apple Account that bought it. Your progress comes back from your iCloud as long as the backup was on and the phone is signed in to the same Apple Account. If you had turned the backup off, it does not, and the new phone starts from scratch.
I have a code from my school or club. Use Redeem a code on the unlock screen (Settings → Unlock everything). It needs iOS 18.4 or later — a free update on every iPhone FAL Ready runs on.
We are a school, NZDA branch or FSE-approved club. Schools, NZDA branches and FSE-approved clubs can ask about a 50% discount for their learners: [email protected].
Refunds. Not happy? Request a refund through Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com, and tell us why: [email protected]. Refunds are Apple's to give; I cannot issue one.
Where do the questions come from? Every one is written from scratch, in original words, and checked against the Firearms Safety Code, the Arms Act 2026 and the Arms Regulations 2026, and FSE's published pages. The source is shown on every answer. No question reaches the app until I have read and approved it.
What about the storage and transport rules? They now live in the Arms Regulations 2026, and FAL Ready's questions on them follow the Regulations and say so. FSE is updating its storage guidance for the Arms Act 2026, so check the latest guide before your inspection.
Can I say the Seven Rules out loud? Yes. In the recital, tap the microphone key on your iPhone's keyboard and speak each rule. That is iOS's own dictation; FAL Ready has no microphone permission and only sees the text. Only the full recital, typed or dictated, earns Seven Rules: mastered.
Is it on Android, or on the web? No. FAL Ready is made for iPhone, and only for iPhone. There is no Android version and no web version.
Is my progress backed up? Yes, unless you turn it off. It is mirrored to your own private iCloud, which I cannot read. One switch in Settings turns it off. The whole of it is on the privacy page.
How do I delete my progress? Settings → Delete everything. It removes every answer, mock and recital result from this iPhone, and from your iCloud if the backup is on. It cannot be undone.
Reporting a privacy or security concern
Email [email protected]. There is no account, nothing is sent to me, and the iCloud backup goes to your own Apple Account — so the surface is small, but if you have found something I want to know about it, and I will say plainly what I have done.
The Firearms Safety Code and the Arms Act 2026 are the authoritative sources. Check them, especially for storage and transport rules, which are being updated for the new Act.
