Terms of use
Last updated 3 October 2026. These terms cover FAL Ready for iPhone, published from New Zealand ("I", "me"), and the pages under huntfix.app/fal.
FAL Ready is a separate app from HuntFix and HuntFix Journal, with its own price and its own privacy policy. Owning one gives you no rights in another.
By using FAL Ready you agree to what is set out below. If you do not agree, delete the app.
What FAL Ready is
An independent study aid for the New Zealand firearms licence theory test. It gives you practice questions, drills on the seven rules of firearm safety and on every topic the test covers, timed mock tests, and short recaps that point you to FSE's own free e-learning.
Every question shows its source. Questions are written in original words and checked against the Firearms Safety Code, the Arms Act 2026, the Arms Regulations 2026 and FSE's published pages.
What FAL Ready is not
It is not official, and it is not the law.
- FAL Ready is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by Firearms Safety and Education New Zealand (FSE), New Zealand Police, the Mountain Safety Council or any government agency. Scott is a former Mountain Safety Council firearms safety instructor; that is his background, not an endorsement.
- The Firearms Safety Code and the Arms Act 2026 are the authoritative sources. Where FAL Ready and they differ, they are right. Check them, especially for storage and transport rules, which are being updated for the new Act.
- It does not replace the firearms safety course, FSE's e-learning, or the official theory and practical tests.
- It does not guarantee anything. Passing our mock tests does not guarantee you will pass the official test or be granted a licence. Nothing in this app has any part in that decision.
- It does not know the pass mark. FSE doesn't publish the theory test pass mark. In the tests Scott supervised under the old system, the pass was 28 out of 30, and any Seven Rules question wrong failed you. We train you to that standard: 28/30 or better, with every Seven Rules question right. A mock marked At our standard means exactly that, and nothing more.
- Laws, fees and procedures change. Questions are checked against their sources as at the date shown in the app, and a change made after that date may not be reflected until the next update.
Knowing the law, and handling firearms safely and lawfully, is yours.
Liability
FAL Ready is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any loss, damage or cost arising from your use of, or inability to use, FAL Ready — including a test you did not pass, a licence that was not granted, or a question, answer or recap that turned out to be wrong or out of date.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986, to the extent those rights cannot lawfully be excluded.
The unlock
FAL Ready is free to download, with a one-off in-app purchase that unlocks everything: NZ$9.99, once. No subscription, no ads.
| Free | A quick test of 5, 7 or 10 questions; Seven Rules drills, putting the rules in order, and the recital; recaps for every topic |
| The unlock | Timed mocks (30 questions, 30 minutes, with a full review); drills on every topic; your missed questions |
| Price | NZ$9.99, once — the price in the app comes from the App Store and is the one you will be charged |
| Family Sharing | On: one unlock covers your Apple family group |
| Managed by | Apple, through the App Store |
- Payment is taken by Apple, once, from the Apple Account you buy with. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
- Refunds are Apple's to give. Not happy? Request a refund through Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com, and tell us why: [email protected]. I cannot issue a refund myself.
- Restore purchase is in Settings and on the unlock screen, for a new phone or a reinstall. Sign in to the Apple Account that bought it.
- Discount codes for schools, NZDA branches and FSE-approved clubs are Apple offer codes, redeemed on the unlock screen (iOS 18.4 or later). A code grants exactly the same unlock as buying it, and expires on the date given with it.
- The price may change for new buyers. It never changes for an unlock you have already bought.
Your progress
Your answers, mocks and recital results are yours. They live on your iPhone and, unless you turn it off, in your own private iCloud; I have no copy and no way to get one. See the privacy policy.
Settings → Delete everything removes them from your iPhone, and from your iCloud if the backup is on.
The content
The questions, explanations and recaps are my own work. The seven rule headings are reproduced as published by Firearms Safety and Education New Zealand, and legislation is quoted with its section references. Please do not copy the question bank out of the app and republish it.
Changes
I may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the top says when they last changed. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
